Certificate of Occupancy Information

Apartment A is listed on the Certificate of Occupancy as a “Janitor’s Apartment.” The City of New York Housing and Development Administration issued a directive (CE1-1975) in 1975 to address the issue of whether such an apartment can be occupied by a rent-paying tenant without obtaining a new or amended Certificate of Occupancy. The current owner began occupancy as a tenant over 50 years ago, and ultimately became a shareholder in the co-op conversion.
